CommSec: US Close 21 Sept 16

US sharemarkets recorded modest gains on Tuesday as investors waited on the outcome of policy meetings in the US and Japan. The weaker housing data gave investors a reason to lock in profits across home builders. The healthcare sector was the best performer up 0.4%. The S&P energy sector was the worst performer losing 0.8%. Exxon fell 1.5% in the wake of a Wall Street Journal report citing that the US SEC is investigating how the oil major valued its assets in the wake of the plunge in oil prices. The Dow Jones index rose by almost 10 points with the S&P 500 index largely flat while the Nasdaq rose by 6 points or 0.1%.
